Paid-search monitoring tools for agencies: a shortlist and a buying checklist
Compare Adthena, Bluepear, BrandVerity, The Search Monitor and AdPolice against the practical demands of managing client brand searches.
An agency needs to explain a search observation to someone who was not looking at the screen when it happened. The client will ask which market it came from, whether the advertiser is an approved partner, and what the agency recommends doing. Choose monitoring software around that conversation, then check whether the account structure protects each client's information.
Ads Lighthouse publishes this guide and develops a product in this category. The shortlist below reflects vendors' public documentation, reviewed on September 7, 2026. It is a starting point for demonstrations, not a ranking from hands-on benchmark tests. Ask each vendor to show the exact workflow and commercial package you would buy.
Five vendors to put on the demonstration list
Adthena documents brand protection, trademark complaint submission and ad hijacking detection. Include it when the brief spans competitive search intelligence and a formal response workflow. Ask which capabilities require add-ons, who approves submissions, and how the agency can review an observation before a client receives a report.
Bluepear's agency page focuses on brand queries and affiliate compliance. It is a relevant demonstration for agencies managing both paid search and partner programs. Bring a real example of an authorized retailer and an unfamiliar advertiser; ask the presenter to show how those two cases stay distinguishable in everyday reporting.
BrandVerity describes paid-search monitoring and link analysis. Consider it where investigating partner activity is central to the service. Ask how a finding moves from an analyst to the person who owns the affiliate relationship, including corrections when the initial interpretation was wrong.
The Search Monitor lists brand protection, affiliate compliance and SEM insights as separate products. That separation is useful during procurement: request a quote for the actual combination your clients need. Demonstrate location and device coverage using your proposed configuration, rather than treating the size of a vendor's overall coverage catalog as your purchased coverage.
AdPolice BrandWatch is positioned around brand protection and fraud monitoring in paid search. Ask for a walkthrough from an observed advertisement to a reviewed finding. Establish which parts your analysts would operate and which parts the vendor's team would handle under the proposed service.
Start the agency trial with access boundaries
Create two test clients with deliberately different domains and keywords. Invite a client reviewer to one account. Check what appears in search, project selectors, notifications and downloaded reports. Repeat with a direct link to the other account's observation. A hidden navigation item alone does not demonstrate an access boundary. Have the vendor explain how permissions are enforced and removed when a colleague leaves.
Also separate agency ownership from client ownership. Write down who can add a market, increase collection frequency, invite users and terminate the service. If the client changes agencies, agree beforehand whether the client can retain its monitoring history and configuration. Ask whether changing the billing owner affects that access. These details affect the relationship long after the first demonstration.
Measure the work between finding and report
Give an analyst a saved observation and time how long it takes to locate the original query, timestamp, device and destination.
Ask another colleague to review the same finding without an oral explanation. Record which context the report fails to carry.
Change an advertiser from unclassified to authorized retailer. Check whether a reader can still understand what was observed separately from the relationship label.
Compare the quote at the planned number of brands, locations and devices, including the extra checks needed during a promotion.
Where Ads Lighthouse fits today
Our application organizes one brand per project and preserves configured search observations for review. Teams can maintain own domains and classify other advertisers. Per-account project isolation and client-specific project roles are not implemented, so the current product should not be presented as a shared client portal for unrelated agency customers. That requirement needs an explicit discussion before access is granted.
Use the same standard for every vendor, including us: a capability should be demonstrated in the package under consideration. If you want to discuss a supervised evaluation, send the brands and access requirements through our contact page. Keep your scoring sheet with the demonstration notes so the eventual decision remains explainable when a client asks why you chose that service.
