Lookalike domain

A plain definition, the context behind it, what Ads Lighthouse can and cannot observe, and the official sources.

Definition
A lookalike domain is a domain name that resembles a brand's own domain or name closely enough to be confused with it.

Lookalikes can add words such as official, outlet or deals, swap letters, or use another top-level domain. In ads they can make a result look like the brand's own listing.

Resemblance alone is not proof of bad intent; some belong to partners or to unrelated businesses with similar names.

How Ads Lighthouse observes it

The Lookalike domains segment in Paid results groups advertiser domains that resemble your domain or brand name. It is a pattern match and can include false positives.
