Brand mention in ad copy

A plain definition, the context behind it, what Ads Lighthouse can and cannot observe, and the official sources.

Definition
A brand mention in ad copy is an ad whose headline or description contains a brand's name.

Mentions are common and often legitimate, for example from retailers that sell the brand or comparison sites. They are also the pattern most closely tied to trademark complaints, which is why teams review them first.

A mention is a reason to look, not a conclusion. The advertiser's relationship to the brand and the landing page matter as much as the words.

How Ads Lighthouse observes it

Ads Lighthouse highlights the brand name in saved ad copy and groups these ads under the Mentions your brand segment. A Brand mention to review alert can notify you by email, Slack or webhook.
