Merchant Center

A plain definition, the context behind it, what Ads Lighthouse can and cannot observe, and the official sources.

Definition
Google Merchant Center is the tool merchants use to upload and manage the product data that Shopping ads and free product listings are built from.

Merchants link Merchant Center to Google Ads to run Shopping ads. The product feed supplies titles, prices, availability and images.

A seller's Merchant Center account is private to that seller, so a brand usually learns about unfamiliar sellers by observing the ads themselves.

How Ads Lighthouse observes it

Ads Lighthouse does not connect to Merchant Center. It observes Shopping ads on the results page for the searches you monitor.
