Responsive search ads

A plain definition, the context behind it, what Ads Lighthouse can and cannot observe, and the official sources.

Definition
Responsive search ads combine several headlines and descriptions supplied by the advertiser, and the platform assembles a version for each search.

Google tests combinations and shows the ones it expects to perform best, so one ad can appear with different text on different searches.

For monitoring, this means one observation shows one combination. A change in the text you see does not always mean the advertiser changed the ad.

How Ads Lighthouse observes it

Each observation keeps the exact headline and description shown for that check, so you can compare what appeared across searches, locations and devices.
